This scholarship was created to aid Niagara County students who are pursuing a career in music. Students must be attending a NCMEA member school and be a candidate for graduation in June of 2008. In order to be considered for the scholarship 3 items must be presented to the Vice President for Scholarships:
The scholarship committee will review the applications and hold interviews and auditions on January 13, 2009 at Starpoint High School. These appointments will be scheduled once all application materials have been processed. Each applicant will be sent an audition packet containing his or her audition time and pertinent information regarding the process.
There are no restrictions in regards to musical literature for the audition. A student’s college audition selections will be suitable for consideration. However, the audition piece must be presented as the composer conceived it. Students must audition with accompaniment if the composition was written that way. Please be aware that NCMEA will not provide an accompanist for the scholarship auditions. Students should arrange their accompaniment for the performance. Tape accompaniments are acceptable, but are not recommended.
In addition to auditioning in their major area of performance, applicants may perform a brief selection (3-5 minutes maximum) on a minor instrument, or submit evidence of other musical skills (i.e. music composition).
Please contact NCMEA Vice President Roger Van Dette with any questions.
